It’s Time for the Carnival of HR: Valentine’s Day Edition

Could February get any crazier? Snow and power losses in Dallas; a frosty 11 degrees in Kansas City; and plans for a virtual Mardi Gras in New Orleans. At least we had Valentine’s Day last weekend to remind us to celebrate the good times and value our employees. Consistent with previous Carnivals, a wide range of thought leaders weighed in with their advice on ensuring the employee experience is exemplary, how to recognize performance, and why now – more than ever before – treasuring diversity matters. Read on and be sure to share using #CarnivalofHR with your followers.

Our friends at Namely have lots of ideas about how to appreciate your colleagues in the workplace. Even as we work from home, we can put their recommendations into action.

In his recent post, HR Strategist Jon Ingham reminds us that we’re in the people business, first and foremost.

Valentine’s Day was a good reminder to listen to those who matter most. In his post, Dan Graovac of Grokker examines the stress of working from home and how support and attention can improve wellbeing.

Speaking of listening, Anthony Paradiso of AllThinzAP has excellent advice that being uncomfortable is OK and how we need to learn how to communicate across differences.

Navigating difficult conversations requires skills, and when done right, both parties leave feeling much better. Acacia HR Solutions founder Sabrina Baker helps us understand more in her latest post.

HR expert Prasad Kurian examines the sincerity of corporate values, which he says should be so valued that an organization adheres to them no matter what.

John Baldino of Humareso says we all play the fool at some point in life. Read his post to learn when change is not only good, it’s warranted.

Back to our theme of love, HR consultant Sandrine Bardot shouts about her love of comp & benefits via video. Merci beaucoup!

Remember that your employees relish a shout-out as well. Check out this post by Mary Williams of SRZ Management to learn about the ripple effect of recognition.

Shameless plug for a great new book from Lars Schmidt by way of our friends at Greenhouse. Check out Redefining HR – a worthy read for you and your team.

Everyone loves a comeback story, and there’s no stronger community than HR. HR Ops Manager Kayla Moncayo shares a very personal perspective on stress, a pandemic job search, and her move to New York City. Lots of love to this inspiring fire-breather.

One more shameless plug before we consider this episode of the Carnival complete: I’m chairing next month’s virtual HR Tech Conference. Please use this link to register (it’s FREE!) so we know you’re a Carnival of HR fan. We’re looking forward to seeing you there and continuing the conversation!
