Making the Job Candidate Experience Count
After spending hours scouring job boards, there is perhaps nothing more exciting than finding that perfect opportunity. But that thrill can easily turn to frustration once you apply and find yourself lost amid countless questions and a seemingly endless application process. Making matters worse, you may never even hear from the company after you apply, receiving no feedback or updates and never knowing if or when the position has been filled. If you are reading this, then chances are good you have been subjected to a negative candidate experience; if so, you surely know how exasperating it can be to end up in the “black hole.” Yet many companies fail to realize that their job candidates are often their customers as well, and a negative candidate experience can dissuade them (and in the age of social media, their entire networks) from applying for future positions and purchasing the company’s products and services.
With this in mind, The Devon Group is excited to partner with The Talent Board to promote the organization’s Candidate Experience Awards (or CandEs) for the second year. The CandEs were established to recognize companies that deliver an exemplary candidate experience throughout the recruiting continuum. As more employers realize the benefits of a positive and transparent application process, the awards also provide a benchmark, allowing companies to see how they measure against others and enabling them to improve their candidate experience.
At a time when people are more than willing to share their reviews of restaurants, airlines, plumbers and everything in between, the level of service an organization provides has a definite impact on business results. The same holds true for employers and the service they deliver to their candidates. As such, employers must ensure a positive experience for not just the people they hire, but for the people they don’t. The CandEs aims to raise awareness of this need for an enhanced candidate experience, and we are more than happy to work with The Talent Board to help them meet this goal.
