Pioneer Learning Company lynda.com Releases Film on Groundbreaking Artists
Online learning company lynda.comhas published a feature-length documentary on the contrasting creative processes of controversial artists Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor. The newest in a series of lynda.com films intended to inspire creativity, Jerry & Maggie: This is not photography ventures inside the couple’s quiet Florida compound to see how—and why—they create their haunting, layered dreamscapes. The husband-and-wife artists represent both ends of the analog-to-digital spectrum: Jerry experiments with negatives in an old-school darkroom while Maggie composes on the computer screen using found objects. Together, they push the boundaries of photography’s possibilities.
“They’re the most amazing, modern-day, surreal storytellers that I know," says Adobe Systems senior creative director Russell Brown, who points to Jerry’s images as having influenced the creation of Photoshop. In Jerry & Maggie, Brown joins other preeminent voices in photography to lend insight to the artists’ work, from the composition to the criticism.
The documentary premieres at 5 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City as part of the 2012 PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo. Uelsmann and Taylor, along with film’s director and producer, will attend the event and take part in a Q&A session following the screening.
